Biocontrol agents and resistance inducers reduce Phytophthora crown rot (Phytophthora capsici) of sweet pepper in closed soilless culture

چکیده

Twelve trials, in closed soilless culture under controlled conditions, were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of resistance inducers (based on K-phosphite and K-silicate used alone or combination), experimental biocontrol agents (Trichoderma sp. TW2, a mixture Pseudomonas FC 7B, 8B, 9B, Fusarium solani FUS25, PB26), commercial formulation Trichoderma gamsii + T. asperellum, against diseases caused by Phytophthora capsici sweet pepper. The products applied using three different protocols, effects incidence crown, stem root rots (% dead plants), disease development (area progress curve; AUDPC), plant fresh weights evaluated. Potassium phosphite, directly at standard P2O5:K2O, 1.30 1.05 g L-1) half rates, onto growing media, via nutrient solution, before infestation peat medium with P. capsici, provided best management dose-dependent manner, an 80% reduction for dosage both types application. These treatments also reduced proportions plants 47% from rate 62% rate, when solution substrate. partially percentage plants, 20–23%. No improvement control was observed combination while combined development, compared untreated controls. Biocontrol (BCAs), preventively, rots, similar better results than those asperellum gamsii. Among tested BCAs, FUS25 most consistent (60–65%) gave increased weights. All BCAs trend pressures. least AUDPC values, non-treated controls, followed strains TW2. indicate potential potassium phosphite pepper grown systems.

Biocontrol of Phytophthora Blight and Anthracnose in Pepper by Sequentially Selected Antagonistic Rhizobacteria against Phytophthora capsici

We previously developed a sequential screening procedure to select antagonistic bacterial strains against Phytophthora capsici in pepper plants. In this study, we used a modified screening procedure to select effective biocontrol strains against P. capsici; we evaluated the effect of selected strains on Phytophthora blight and anthracnose occurrence and fruit yield in pepper plants under field ...

BABA and Phytophthora nicotianae Induce Resistance to Phytophthora capsici in Chile Pepper (Capsicum annuum)

Induced resistance in plants is a systemic response to certain microorganisms or chemicals that enhances basal defense responses during subsequent plant infection by pathogens. Inoculation of chile pepper with zoospores of non-host Phytophthora nicotianae or the chemical elicitor beta-aminobutyric acid (BABA) significantly inhibited foliar blight caused by Phytophthora capsici. Tissue extract a...

Interspecific hybridization and apomixis between Phytophthora capsici and Phytophthora tropicalis.

Phytophthora capsici and the closely related Phytophthora tropicalis infect different hosts that have documented overlapping geographical distributions. Phytophthora capsici attacks annual vegetable hosts whereas P. tropicalis has been recovered from woody perennial hosts. Our objective was to test whether interspecific hybridization is possible and to characterize the resulting progeny. Crosse...

Resistance of pepper germplasm to Phytophthora capsici isolates collected in northwest Spain

One single pathotype (race 0) was identified among eight tested isolates of Phytophthora capsici (Leonian) collected in northwest Spain, after inoculation tests using pepper cultivars of different origin, including the well known reference resistant cultivar Serrano Criollo de Morelos 334. Complete resistance to P. capsici was not found after the inoculation of 23 local genotypes of Capsicum an...

Biocontrol of Late Blight (Phytophthora capsici) Disease and Growth Promotion of Pepper by Burkholderia cepacia MPC-7

A chitinolytic bacterial strain having strong antifungal activity was isolated and identified as Burkholderia cepacia MPC-7 based on 16S rRNA gene analysis. MPC-7 solubilized insoluble phosphorous in hydroxyapatite agar media. It produced gluconic acid and 2-ketogluconic acid related to the decrease in pH of broth culture. The antagonist produced benzoic acid (BA) and phenylacetic acid (PA). Th...
